Software Development Technician Apprenticeship

Software Development Technicians support the design, development, testing and maintenance of software solutions used across a wide range of industries, including technology, finance, transport, public services, engineering and manufacturing.

Throughout the programme, learners develop the knowledge and skills needed to create and test software applications, websites, mobile apps and digital systems. Working as part of a software development team, they help turn design requirements into working software by writing code, testing functionality and supporting the delivery of digital solutions.

Software Development Technicians work alongside software developers, designers, testers, analysts and project teams to build reliable, secure and user-focused applications. They contribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle, from understanding user requirements and developing code to testing, improving and maintaining software products.

Learners gain experience using modern programming tools, technologies and development practices while developing problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills. They may also support user testing, gather feedback and contribute to the ongoing improvement of software systems.

On completion, learners will be equipped to begin a career in software development, supporting the creation of innovative digital solutions that help organisations improve services, increase efficiency and meet customer needs.
