Photography (Pathway)

Meet new people, capture a moment, share your perspective, explore new places and challenge yourself! Photography gives you that opportunity to say a thousand different things and tell a story in one image.

The beauty of photography is that there’s always something new to challenge you and push you to achieve more. When it’s new equipment, you need to learn how to use it. It may be a new location for a photoshoot which might put you out of your comfort zone. You will learn new things not only about photography but about yourself as you match your creative, and communication skills alongside your emerging technical ability.

The study of Photography is integral to all our vibrant and exciting Art and Design courses. Initially, you will gain a broad Art and Design skill base, developing briefs and ideas in a variety of subjects, including Digital and 3D Design, Fine Art and Fashion and Textiles. You will try new techniques and approaches to widen your creative perspective and thoroughly prepare you for your chosen specialist field of Photography.

The Photography Suite includes 5k iMac computers, Adobe Creative Cloud inc Photoshop & Lightroom, Photography Studio with professional lighting, Nikon digital cameras and large format digital printer.

To enhance your studies, you will also have access to fantastic, industry-standard facilities such as a Commercial Graphics Studio, 3D Modelling and & Animation Suite with Adobe Creative Cloud, Fashion, Textiles and 3D Design Studios with a 3D printer and laser cutter as well as individual Fine Art spaces.

Artists and practitioners come to College to talk about their work and experience. We work with galleries, universities and businesses to ensure you have the opportunity to showcase your work. Our annual End of Year Show gives you the opportunity to display your best work in a professional environment.

At Level 3 in Year 1, you will study a range of arts disciplines to give you a broad understanding of the arts and attributes to the creative process. In Year 2, you will specialise in your chosen pathway (Photography) which will allow you to explore and develop your skills and knowledge central to that area. The Photography specialist pathway forms part of the UAL (University of Arts London) Art and Design Creative Practice: Art, Design & Communication.
