Painting – Masterclass

This short course is designed for those with little or no painting experience, although it might prove useful if you would like to add a little more structure to your painting experience.

This is a well-structured and systematic course if you have never painted before or if you want to reinforce your basic skills. The course will include colour mixing techniques, colour values and composition. You will learn to pay attention to colour, shape and tone and relate all these elements together in various compositions. This course aims to foster self-confidence and enjoyment of painting in a stimulating environment. It is an ideal course for beginners as there is plenty of guidance.


You will need to bring:

  • Palette (can use greaseproof paper or disposable palettes)
  • Three hog paintbrushes, broad, medium and fine
  • Paints: (Pebeo student quality are fine)
  • White
  • Black
  • Light Red/Venetian Red (not cadmium red or process red)
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Oxide of Chromium or Terre Verte
  • White Spirit for cleaning brushes
  • Real Turpentine (small bottle from Merrit & Fryers is £4.99)
  • 2 jars
  • Canvas boards (10 x 8) or so. We will show how to make these
  • Some rags for cleaning brushes
