Art & Design

Art & Design makes you look at things anew. It is about observing, recording and creating your own unique visual response to the world around you.

As part of the Art & Design programme of study, you will specialise in Fine Art and centre your work and projects around these areas of study.

You will start by exploring your creativity in a vibrant and exciting department, where you will develop briefs and ideas in Photography, Graphics, Fashion and Textiles, 3D and Fine Art. All of these areas will play an important role in deciding your choice of specialist pathway. You will begin with exploration, giving you the opportunity to try new techniques and creative attitudes to prepare you to become one of the next generations of artists and designers. You will then intensify your studies within your chosen specialist area of research.

You will study in large, naturally lit studio spaces, a print-making studio with etching, lino and silk screen printing. Our fantastic industry-standard facilities include a Commercial Graphics Studio equipped with Mac Computers, Photography Studio, 3D modelling and Animation Suite with Adobe Creative Cloud, Fashion, Textiles and 3D Design studios as well as individual Fine Art spaces. You will have access to a comprehensive Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and will be taught by a team with strong reputations as practising artists and designers, as well as visiting lecturers and a dynamic programme of guest speakers.

At Level 2, you will study the UAL Art & Design courses which will develop your skills in all art and design areas allowing you to progress onto Level 3 and focus on your specialist pathway.
At Level 3 in Year 1, you will study a range of arts disciplines to give you a broad understanding of the arts and attributes to the creative process. In Year 2, you will specialise in your chosen pathway which will allow you to explore and develop your skills and knowledge central to that area. The Fine Art specialist pathway forms part of the UAL (University of Arts London) Art and Design Creative Practice: Art, Design & Communication.
