Craven College Hosts Esports Tournament

Published 27 March

Level 2 and Level 3 Esports students recently took time out of their studies to host an event for Colne Primet Academy. Our students hosted, controlled, and stream-cast the whole experience and ran the production as they would a professional event.

Students from Colne Primet Academy really enjoyed the day, and got to see a first-hand experience of the course content they would study if they enrolled at Craven College.

The day began with students participating in 1vs1, team and last standing games playing Overwatch, then learning about the educational side to Esports including the jobs/careers a qualification could lead to.

Colne Primet students were introduced to our Esports team who talked about their experiences with competitions, social media and Twitch streaming before hearing from Esports Wellbeing Champions to talk about the College teams and their experiences as well as answering any questions about the course.

Chris Wright, Lecturer in IT and Esports said, “I am very happy and impressed with my students. They handled the pressure of running a full-scale event with external visitors very well, and despite a few bumps at the start, the experience went very well.

“The visitors from Colne Primet Academy were very happy with the day and expressed keen interest in returning for future events.

Jack Farmer, Assistant Principal at Colne Primet Academy added, “A massive thank you for organising this event, the students really enjoyed it. We look forward to visiting again, hopefully in the near future!
