College Develops Higher Education Provision
Craven College is continuing in its commitment to providing high quality Higher Education by updating and revalidating our degree in Wildlife and Conservation Management.

Working with our partner the University of Hull who validate the degree, and environmental employers, including fascination discussions about the competencies required for working now and in future roles, we are enhancing our degree provision by introducing new modules including Conservation Genetics and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) into our Wildlife and Conservation Management degree. In addition, we are adding extra content on rewilding, conservation technologies, and wildlife survey. All these changes will be linked to authentic employer-related assessments.
Initial feedback from the University of Hull stated the proposed degree was “A highly cohesive programme that clearly focuses on preparing students for specific and relevant futures. Excellent evidence of understanding the needs of the sector and preparing students for it” and “The balance of theory and how it can be applied is spot on!”
Gillian Thom, HE Manager and Conservation Lecturer said “Following industry consultation and student feedback, essential industry skills such as GIS and Wildlife Survey are being delivered in the first year meaning that students are industry ready for entry level posts after one year. This fits with the New Lifelong Learning Entitlement (from 2026/27) that encourages study of Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications. For those wanting a deeper understanding we are still offering a Top-up to a full BSc qualification.”
