This award will introduce you to some of the skills and knowledge you will require to be safe around horses.
This is a theory-based course that can be completed as preparation for the introduction to horse care challenge awards where you can develop your practical skills. Some of the topics to be covered are:
- Safety on the Yard
- Horse Behaviour
- Points of the horse
- Stable care
- Grooming
- Signs of health
- Feeding
- Field checks
- Parts of the saddle & bridle
Entry Requirements
Previous experience is not required.
Information
Clothing you will need to wear:
- BHS Standard riding hat
- Sturdy footwear (ideally boots/wellies)
- Warm clothing, (no hoodies allowed) it can get chilly on the yard!
