Vintage Fashion Visit
June Swain Phillips visited the art, design and fashion students at Craven College to talk about job opportunities and the harsh realities of the corporate world as well as looking for design talent to support her in her new venture into the world of fashion.
June has recently retired from a corporate career specialising in business change management and business transformation, particularly in the retail sector and fashion within department stores. She says, ’I always wanted to be a fashion designer and now that I am retired, I’m honing in on fashion from the 40’s and 50’s, which is very tailored and very feminine and hope to manufacture some of my own designs with my own brand. Joan Murray has given me the opportunity to meet the students, so I have been able to speak to them about the reality of how retail works and at the same time, look at some of their artwork to see if there is someone who would be able to help me in interpreting and sketching some of my designs.’
