Catherine Jackson, Student Services Manager at Craven College, Skipton has completed an enormous challenge by walking the Three Peaks, three times on three consecutive days over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, raising approximately £930 at the same time as part of the BRIT 2021 Challenge.

The British Inspiration Trust’s 2021 Challenge aims to improve the mental health and fitness of young adults and students throughout the UK and raise vital funds for its partner mental health charities.

The challenge finishes on 1 July 2021 and all funds raised will be shared equally between;· Nightline, PAPYRUS – Prevention of Young Suicide, Student Minds, The British Inspiration Trust, The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.

Fortunately for Catherine, the weather was beautiful and the views amazing. She says, ’It was so fantastic to be able to get out again and connect with nature after all of the restrictions – on day 3 I set off at 5.30am and felt like I had Pen-y-ghent all to myself with a beautiful cloud inversion when I got to the top. Everyone I met along the way was so friendly and supportive with positive messages of encouragement, which I really appreciated.’

Setting time goals to get to each peak helped Catherine along and she managed to complete each day in under 9 hours with her best time on the first day of 8 hours 26 minutes. With a stock of caramel shortbread, flapjacks and jelly babies, she kept her energy up plus at least 4 litres of water every day to rehydrate.

Lindsey Johnson, Principal congratulated Catherine saying, ‘We are privileged to have such inspirational staff at Craven College, who are willing to literally go the extra mile for such worthy causes. A heartfelt thank you to Catherine on behalf of all staff and students at Craven College for her huge achievement.’

A total of nearly £930 has been raised so far, which includes a College collection of £80. The Challenge lasts until the end of June, so the fundraising has not finished, with a staff raffle still to come.
