On Wednesday 25 April, Craven College football team were crowned champions after playing the final league match of the season against New College Pontefract.
The conditions were not ideal but it turned out to be an even game. Craven had most of the play in the first half and Jacob Polignone scored a great free-kick after 30 minutes.
New College Pontefract had more possession in the second half but Matty Brooke pulled off two fantastic saves in goal.
Craven College’s second goal came from a counter-attack which saw Ollie White passing the ball in.
Football Coach, Lee Duxbury says ‘In all, it wasn’t a good game to watch or to play in but we played the conditions better than the opposition, to secure the victory and league title. Well done to all the students who played and contributed to the team this season, and many thanks to Lee and Manny who coached the team. A good year for the football academy: 10 league games with 9 wins and 1 loss, a good cup run to the last 8, beating some good teams on the way, and 4 friendlies against local opposition.’
