Behind The Scenes at Craven Museum

Published 10 December

Media students were visited by Lizzie Dawson, Community Heritage Curator at Craven Museum. Lizzie is creating podcasts which document the developments behind the scenes to keep the public up to date whilst the museum is closed for Heritage Lottery Fund refurbishment.

Lizzie explained how to interpret objects via podcasts and then set a task for the students. They were asked to choose from a selection of objects from the museum and develop an idea for a 5 to 10-minute podcast based on the object. The next step will be to pitch their ideas and write scripts which, if accepted, will go onto the official podcast available on iTunes.

Paul Nataraj, Media Tutor said, ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with a local organisation and get an experience of working on a commission. It doesn’t stop there, the students can also apply to be part of the production team for the podcasts which will provide them with valuable voluntary work experience.”
