Glow In The Dark Bacteria

Published 21 March

Science students have been genetically modifying bacteria for National Science Week.

The group undertook the investigation in order to find ways of feeding a growing population.

They explored the use of plasmids in transforming bacteria, and were able to make the bacteria ‘glow in the dark’.

Simon Reed, Science tutor, said: “This practical is extremely fun and the end result is very rewarding. The students were particularly impressed with being able to make the bacteria glow in the dark.”
