Students Enjoy Success at SkillBuild

Published 04 June

Three Construction students successfully competed at the SkillBuild event in Bolton.

Emma Firth competed in the plastering competition against sixteen other plasterers. Emma placed third at the competition but more importantly, she is now placed fourth in the country with five more competitions to go. If Emma’s keeps repeating her performances here, she stands a strong chance of qualifying for the national final, held at the NEC Arena in November.

Arran Burnett competed in the joinery competition against over twenty other joiners, whilst another student competed in the brickwork competition against more than twenty other bricklayers.

Steve Jarvis, Subject Sector Leader for Construction, said: “The students did brilliantly at Bolton in the competition and were a credit to the college and a pleasure to have, as for the results we officially won’t find out until late June when they will be e-mailed the marks. All our students were first-year students competing against Level 1 Level 2 and Level 3 students and doing work well above their level.”
