When he saw this beautiful dovetail box and small table, made by Sonny Harrison, former student and now workshop technician, tutor Craig Dinsdale proposed increasing the 5 week part-time introductory woodwork course to 8 weeks so others could choose to make a more advance piece like one of these.
Craig said: "To produce a dovetail box or table of this design and quality with a matt finish spray paint can realistically be achieved by anyone over an 8-week introductory course. The items are something anyone would be proud to make and own or give as a gift. Sonny is proving to be a talented woodworker with a great eye for design."
The skills covered on the introductory course include producing a variety of joints and finishes, using a variety of joinery tools, measuring, marking and cutting timber, using a plane and finishing timber - not forgetting health and safety requirements! Look out for the new part-time course listings for September 2017-18 and try your hand at producing one of these desirable pieces using dovetail joints.
