Degree Students Out and About
Young Children’s Learning and Development Foundation Degree students last week visited Brougham Street Nursery and Skipton’s Children’s Centre.
The trip kicked off with a tour of Brougham Street Nursery led by Louise Shaw, Childcare Manager and herself a graduate from the course at Craven College. The students were able to observe practice, resources, and activities as well as asking practitioners questions in the rooms for babies, toddlers and pre-school children. The child-led nature of the learning and the outdoor environment were of particular interest for the students.
Hannah Parsons, Family Outreach Worker, explained the role of Skipton’s Children’s Centre and all the agencies which work together to support babies, children, and families. The tour of the Children’s Centre showed how the different professionals work together and the many services they offer. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to find out about integrated working and to widen their knowledge of career opportunities in the childcare sector.
Claire Beresford, tutor on the course, said: “The students learned a lot from the trip which was extremely insightful and inspiring. What they were taught can certainly be applied to their own work.”
