It’s good news for anyone out there who wants to re-train to work in the NHS – Government Bursaries have been reinstated to help with everyday costs.
From September 2020 all students studying Nursing, Midwifery and many Allied Health Professions Degrees in England will get an annual payment of £5,000 from September 2020, with additional grants of £3000 being available for regional or specialisms shortages, such as mental health.
This news is incredibly welcome because nationally the number of adults re-training has reduced dramatically since the previous bursary was withdrawn several years ago. You will still have to apply to Student Finance England for loans to cover tuition fees, however, but the bursary will allow many more adult students, in particular, to realise their dreams of re-training to work in the NHS.
In England, eligible courses include the following:-
- Dietetics
- Occupational Therapy
- Operating Department Practitioner
- Orthoptics
- Nursing
- Midwifery
- Physiotherapy
- Podiatry/Chiropody
- Prosthetics and Orthotics
- Radiography (diagnostic and therapeutic)
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Dental Hygiene or Dental Therapy
- Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional degree students who already hold a previous degree are eligible for financial support from the Students Loan Company.
