Aviation students took part in Emergency Water Drills Training at the Marine and Offshore Safety Training Centre in Tyneside.

They learnt about life-saving techniques including the HELP position, how to keep body temperature up in cold seas by huddling together and manoeuvring life rafts. Students enjoyed practical activities bailing out rafts and racing to save lives using paddles.

Before students entered the pool the centre gave a lecture on famous events in aviation history where these techniques are essential such as the Hudson River incident. The training is certified by the centre in which learners can take forward with them into their career.

Vicky Carolan, Aviation Tutor said: “All students thoroughly enjoyed the training and found it fun as well as educational.”
