Access to HE – Health Science Professions students are studying Cell Biology as part of their Human Physiology module. One element of their lesson preparation was to create a model of a cell. One student created his own Cell Cake which meant that he had to create all the intricate parts such as cell membranes and mitochondrion as part of the baking process. This helped to reinforce the learning process both aesthetically and visually, and crucially because it was made from all edible parts, the class got to eat it later.
As all the students have to make a model, tutor Julie Middlebrook is hoping there is more cake to come.
