My fitness career began at David Lloyds, Leeds where I was a full-time Personal Trainer. After two years I was appointed to Fitness Manager and one of my roles was to help develop our Apprentices. This is where my passion for teaching began – helping to grow and nurture the skills of our fitness instructors in the gym. I have been teaching in FE now for 10 years and accredited as an outstanding teacher following lesson observations. My professional success is the success of the students I teach and ultimately, their destinations.

During a presentation at my local rugby club, I felt Craven College came across as a really interesting place to study. It turns out that the whole class chose the course because we all love rugby and we were able to put our passion across on the pitch when doing practical work. I was proud to be made Craven College Rugby League Team Captain and I have been given a professional contract by Keighley Cougars (reserve grade).

I chose to study at Craven College because of the Rugby Academy and its reputation. I like to be fit and want to develop a career which involves fitness. The best thing about the course is the professional training we get from our coach, the games we play against other teams and working out in the new fitness hub.

I heard from friends and family how good the Craven College sports course was and I loved it when I came for a visit. It’s a friendly environment, everyone gets on well and we have great sporting opportunities. I went to Holland as part of the swimming team representing GB in Life Saving – we won the 4 x 25 meter manikin relay! It’s great the course lets you develop as an athlete and gives you the opportunity to compete.

I chose the course because Rugby is what I enjoy and the course is great for training. With the guidance I continue to receive from my tutors I would like to play again for Yorkshire next year and also progress in the sport, pushing for a professional contract. The experience playing for Yorkshire has been brilliant - I'm very proud. I've been able to play to big crowds and the experience has been really special.
