Sewing – Make a Fabric Bag for Life

Reduce, Reuse & Recycle – make your own ‘bag for life’!

During this one-day course, you will learn how to create a bag for life, for shopping or other uses. Utilising old clothes and existing fabric, you will learn planning techniques, as well cutting skills and how to make handles. Be the envy of your family and friends with your homemade creation to use time and time again.

“We were given a choice of bags to make and I can’t believe I made it with the Tutor’s help; it wasn’t as tricky as I thought it would be and now I use my bag all the time!”

Information

  • You will need enough old scraps of fabric and fents (or clothes – old jeans and thick shirts are ideal) to cover a shopper style bag, plus handles. This is roughly 150cm by 80cm. You will also need colour co-ordinated thread for this project.
  • Basic sewing skills and how to use a sewing machine are desirable, although not essential. This course is suitable for beginners who wish to improve. You may wish to bring your own sewing resources to the course (i.e. your own shears etc).
  • Please remember to bring a packed lunch with you and a travel cup (with a lid) for tea/coffee. Tea and coffee supplies will be provided on the day.

* Fee remission may be available for this course, visit Fees and Funding for further information
