If your ambition is to have a career as a Nurse, Paramedic, Midwife, Social/Mental Health Worker, a Learning Disability Carer or a Care Home Assistant then this course can provide you with the comprehensive knowledge you need for a Degree or to go straight into the Health Care industry.
Equivalent to three A Levels, this qualification provides extensive comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care and includes modules on Human Lifespan Development, Psychological Perspectives and Dealing with Challenging Behaviour whilst also concentrating on your own Personal and Professional Development. Our units are well-balanced between internally assessed coursework units and externally assessed exams. This means that we give each student the time to shine in terms of their own personal strengths, and are also developing a range of skills required by both universities and industry.
Our tutors have a wide range of Health and Social Care experience ranging from managing Residential Homes and Homecare Services for people with learning difficulties to be a Ward Sister, to working in Nurseries, Primary Schools, Secondary and Special Schools through to Social Services. Their backgrounds mean that they have a wealth of experience on which to base their teaching and your learning. They also have many well-established contacts within the industry which is good in terms of work experience opportunities and excellent guest speakers.
Here at Craven College, unlike at many other local schools and colleges, we have made the decision to stick with the BTEC qualification. We have done this because of the academic credibility that this qualification has, and we strongly believe that we need to keep your progression options open. We respect that it is hard to make life-changing decisions at aged 16, and so by sticking with BTEC we think that you can support you to work towards whatever futures you desire.
We are proud to put the students first by offering one year qualifications, which can be topped up the following year to give you the full A Level equivalency. The benefits of this are that you can choose to follow a different route in year 2 if you intended progression changes, and so you will always feel inspired and challenged.
This qualification is well received by Universities and employers alike, so you will have the option of a progression route to a rewarding career in the caring services or to Degree level study in one of the Social Care professions.
