I chose Craven College because of the good reviews, the freedom to express your independence and the studio facilities. I’ve loved the course content and tutors who are really supportive and motivational. Photography has always been the best part of the course for me - I've been able to learn and see my skills develop - it’s my strong point where I can express myself and develop my independence. I'm looking forward to going to the University of Huddersfield to study a BA (Hons) Degree in Photography.

Fine Art was always my main interest. I researched courses on line and decided that travelling to Craven College to study was what I wanted to do. In the first year I was still into Fine Art but also got to try other areas and I discovered 3D and that 3D was what I had a real passion for so it became my specialist subject area. Best decision I ever made to come to Craven College and find 3D and been able to progress to study Architecture at university.

I had good feedback from friends who had chosen to come to Craven College - they said it was a great place to come to study after school. So I checked out the courses I was interested in and chose Art & Design I get massive motivation from the course and have experienced great teaching. I have quite an interest in enterprise so I am going to uni to add business and marketing to my skills – not decided where yet but I have 3 offers so far.

Four weeks into A Levels I knew I wanted something else and found the Art & Design Extended Diploma before I found Craven College. It was the facilities which drew me in. When I saw the studios I thought they were fantastic and when I met the tutors it confirmed my decision to study here. It’s a trek to get from home – a bus, a train and a walk to get to college but it is worth it. The best decision ever. I have a place to study Interior Architecture at Nottingham Trent.

I’d always liked art and design so came to do Level 2 then the Level 3 Extended Diploma and have now been offered a place at Glasgow School of Art. It’s the best teaching I have ever experienced. The tutors have been very inspiring and I like that I have been pushed and challenged to do the most creative work I can.

My ambition is to work as a fashion designer in London. I had the opportunity to do A Levels at school but chose to study Fashion and Clothing at Craven College. This course allows me to be more creative when I’m designing my pieces. There is much more independence and the teachers are there if you need their help. They all want you to succeed.

My ambition is to become a designer, so the work experience alongside the encouragement I get from my tutors is fantastic. Being able to work in these studios with the materials, dyes, techniques we are taught is fantastic. If we think for a moment we don’t believe we can do something, the tutor shows us the way and we find we can. All through the course we have been shown the next step – not just at College but for the future, university and jobs. I am loving it.

As well as teaching I have my own small studio in Skipton where I conceive and craft stylish and intriguing clothes with my knitting machines. I originally trained in weaving and attended the Royal College of Art in London. The opportunity to teach new skills and knowledge of materials, techniques and processes and guiding students to broaden their knowledge makes the job very exciting. No two years are ever the same – just like fashion!

After graduating in 3D design, silversmithing, metalwork and jewellery, I worked in Convent Garden and Camden Market selling designer jewellery. This inspired me to produce my own designer work which I sold through galleries. I have taught now for 19 years and still create my own designs on a commission basis. I love seeing students learn and perfect new techniques and seeing their skills grow and develop in different directions.
