This introductory one-day course will provide you with the opportunity to draft a basic pattern and make a Japanese style apron. You will learn professional tips and tricks from our tutor and learn skills such as how best to co-ordinate fabrics, how to create a basic pattern of your own, professional seam methods, how to reduce fabric bulk and how to topstitch. You will prepare and sew your apron to take home with you at the end of the day.

Entry Requirements

  • This course is suitable for improvers who already possess basic sewing skills and can use different feet on a sewing machine confidently
  • You will need to have used a commercial pattern successfully before. Basic sewing skills and how to use a sewing machine are essential

You will need to provide your own fabric – in two contrasting or complementary colours, both medium weight (e.g. a thin denim style fabric and a medium weight soft furnishing cotton or cotton drill would work well). You will need to supply 2.5m of each fabric and bring your own sewing resources to the course if you wish (i.e. your own shears etc).

Please bring:

  • Packed lunch
  • Travel cup (with a lid) for tea/coffee

This course is suitable for beginners who possess very basic sewing skills in setting up & threading a machine and being able to sew straight stitch only. A great short course to boost your confidence!
