Traineeship & Kickstart Scheme
As part of its support to help young people find sustainable employment, we are supporting a new Government initiative through the development of a Traineeship / Kickstart Scheme programme which will start from October 2020. Both programmes will run in parallel, with the first 10 days involving personal and social development, along with preparing individuals for work readiness.
The Traineeship is a skills development programme, which focuses on employability, and includes a work placement of 70 hours or longer.
Traineeships are aimed at those aged 16 – 24 (16 – 25 if you have an education, health and care (EHC) plan), in order to prepare you for an Apprenticeship or for entry into employment.
To be eligible to join this programme, you must:
- – be eligible to work in England
- – have little or no work experience but are motivated to work
- – be aged 16 – 24 (or 25 with an EHC plan) – and qualified up to Level 3
Our programme will last for 6-8 weeks. Although a Traineeship is unpaid, we will pay travel expenses and the cost of lunch whilst on work placement.
The Kickstart Scheme is a new Government initiative for those aged 16 – 24, who are currently claiming Universal Credit and are at risk of becoming long-term unemployed. The scheme will subsidise a 6 month work placement with a local employer.
For each “kickstarter” job, there is a minimum of 25 hours’ work per week at the National Minimum Wage – (£4.55 for under 18s, £6.45 for 18 to 20-year-olds, and £8.20 for 21 to 24-year-olds). The scheme will open for applications in August 2020, with the first jobs expected to start in the autumn. The scheme will run until December 2021.
Which Programme is Right For You
The decision on which of the two programmes is right for you will be discussed when you make the initial enquiry. The emphasis will be on what is best for your future career development. However, please note that the Kickstart Scheme is restricted by the Government to 16-24 year olds who are currently claiming Universal Credit.
