Money Matters

Student Services at Craven College can provide help and advice on funding your course and the grants and loans available to you.

EMA and ALG schemes to close to new applicants

Please note that both schemes have now closed to new applicants from January 2011. If you currently get EMA you will continue to receive it for the rest of this academic year, but you will not receive it next academic year.

Craven College is committed to continuing to support students through its generous travel policy and bursaries – keep checking the website for details.

Army Bursary Scheme

Based on the college’s proven successful track record in Public Services training, we have been chosen as a partner in this new scheme. The Army works in partnership with the college to support courses prior to joining the Army. If you are accepted onto the scheme and successfully complete your course you will receive a bursary of £2000.

This scheme is aimed at students across all curriculum areas, not solely Public Services. For example, students in Construction, Animal Care, Media, ICT and Catering are all in demand for careers in the Army.  For more information on the Army Bursary Scheme, contact Student Services on 01756 708 008.

We have a 'Look at Life' scheme with the Royal Marines and Royal Navy and will be sending students to Commando Training Centre in Portsmouth for a week at a time.

Residential Grant

Funding may be available to assist students who live more than 15 miles from Skipton and need to move or lodge locally in order to attend their course.

College Student Support Fund

Funding is also available to assist students from low-income families with the costs of coming to college. This may be used to help with equipment, specialist clothing or books.

Craven College Charitable Trust

The Charitable Trust may help anyone who needs financial assistance whilst studying at Craven College. Applications are dealt with on an individual basis by the Trustees. Childcare Support (if you are aged under 20) funding is available via the government’s Care to Learn Scheme which will pay your nursery or child-minding costs while you are at college. For students aged over 20, the college has support funds available to assist with childcare costs either at the college’s own nursery or at a private provider.

Travel Bursary

Please see our Travel section for more information.

Green Travel

Craven College promotes forward-thinking, which is why we support the concept of Green Travel. Each term an environmental committee meets to discuss and act on issues such as improving public transport links, encouraging walking and car-sharing to reduce the demand for car-parking and minimise the impact of our transport activity on the surrounding area. Our Green Travel Policy is regularly reviewed.
