Craven College’s Centre for Rural and Equine Studies runs a wide range of courses and has access to exceptionally skilled and experienced teaching staff and experts from the industry. You can continue on to higher education to study for a degree at the Centre for Rural and Equine Studies or access a wide variety of employment opportunities in the land-based sector.
Our strong industry links ensure that your learning experience is relevant to modern practice. Regular industrial visits and guest speakers support your learning process, alongside specialist tutors.
Specialist careers advice and work experience placements will equip you for employment . You can also take advantage of additional training and qualifications such as the BHS Stages, First Aid, Riding and Road Safety, RHS Horticulture, Chainsaw Maintenance and Operation, Application of Pesticides and key skills to guarantee that you have the opportunity to make the most of your time at the college.
This year Craven College has once again entered the garden design competition at Harrogate Flower Show alongside six other colleges and won a prestigious Gold Medal. Each college was given a design brief from an imaginary client and had to create a suitable garden in just six-and-a-half days. The design team consisted of students studying towards the BTEC National Award in Garden Design at Craven College.
You will be encouraged to produce a Craven College Record of Employability, Skills and Training folder (CREST). This will detail all aspects of your work at college and your work experience and is an ideal way of promoting your skills to an employer at an interview.
Craven College is a founder member of the Yorkshire Rural Academy which allows you to access the expertise and opportunities of our partner institutions at York St John University and Askham Bryan College.
Our facilities and resources include: Fully equipped training rooms and workshops at Skipton Auction Mart site, purpose built equestrian centre, extensive horticulture unit, rural mechanics and motor vehicle workshop, construction area for land based skills, dry stone walling site, animal care unit.
Follow in the footsteps of horticulture student Luke Denby who will this year be representing the UK at WorldSkills in Calgary.
