Public & Uniformed Services

If you are aiming for a career in the public services, emergency services or armed forces then these programmes are designed for you.

This is a highly competitive industry to enter and you’ll need skills and experience to have the advantage over other candidates and gain employment within this field. Our tutors have extensive experience in public and uniformed services providing you with the best possible education. The college has strong links with the Services, including the:

·         Army

·         Royal Marines

·         Royal Navy

·         Metropolitan Police Service

·         North and West Yorkshire Police Services

·         North and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services.

You will be coached to reach the required standard of physical fitness to increase your chances in the highly competitive entry system for the services. Above all, you will find out from the services themselves about the attitudes and aptitudes they expect. You will have the opportunity to go on residential visits to places such as New York, where students went on a fact finding tour of the NYPD and fire service as well as trips to Army training camps, fire stations and Government organisations.

We have a Look at Life scheme with the Royal Marines and Royal Navy where you may attend the Commando Training Centre. Craven College students have progressed into employment in the Police, Fire and Paramedic Services, Customs and Revenue, the Royal Marines and the Army.

You will also have the opportunity to try out for one of the college’s Sports Development Centres. Add something extra to your college life. Meet new people, join new groups, challenge yourself and have fun.

·         Centre for Football Development

The Centre for Football Development is available to talented football players who wish to follow a full-time education programme at college and receive expert coaching to develop their football ability. You will receive coaching and may end up playing in the English Colleges Football Association League (ECFAL).

·         Centre for Rugby Development

The Centre for Rugby Development is available for talented rugby players, who wish to follow a full-time education programme at college and receive expert coaching to develop their rugby ability. We provide high quality training and coaching and the opportunity to play rugby against other colleges and schools combined with a full-time education programme.

·         Further Sports Development

We have a wide range of opportunities for students’ cross-college to participate in competitive team sports, including cricket, netball and rounders.

Army Bursary Scheme

Based on the college’s proven successful track record in public services training, we have been chosen as a partner in this new scheme. The Army works in partnership with the college to support courses prior to joining the Army. If you are accepted onto the scheme and successfully complete your course you will receive a bursary. This scheme is aimed at students across curriculum areas, not solely public services. For example students in Construction, Animal Care, Media, ICT and Catering are all in demand for careers in the Army. For more information on the Army Bursary contact Student Services on 01756 708 008.
