Fine Art – Introduction To Drawing, Printmaking and Experimental Processes

In this introduction to Fine Art, students will cover a range of creative activities and explore different materials and methods so that their ideas will find the best forms of expression.

  • Drawing is central to art practice
  • Printmaking is an exciting and creative medium and will engage with colour
  • Sculpture will connect with drawing
  • Art History is the furnace of ideas

Through this study, you will be encouraged to evolve your own language and ways of developing creative ideas The outcome of this broad 16 week course will be confidence in using materials, improved drawing skills, awareness of Art historical precedents and enthusiasm to progress in the study of Fine Art.

Introduction to Fine Art is an ideal course for those returning to formal education; as a means to generate a preparatory portfolio to apply for higher level study; or just to enjoy the experience whilst learning new skills. 

NB: Whilst the course forms an excellent introduction to study at a higher level in art and design, please note that entry to Craven College’s Fine Art Degree course is based on a successful interview, portfolio and references.

Each lesson is a mix of theoretical and practical elements, and will cover topics such as:

  • Understanding and practice of drawing: still life, landscape and life model
  • The basic rules of composition and colour theory
  • Printmaking media
  • Elements of sculpture to link with drawing
  • Bringing ideas into visual form
  • Finding inspiration in Art History

Students should have be curious and willing to experiment with new ideas and skills.

This course runs every Monday 6.00 – 8.30. There will also be two Saturday sessions: 21st April 10 -3 and Saturday 23rd June  10 - 3.
