Medal of Excellence Award for Scott

Scott Jones receiving award from Celia Walker with Craven College Principal Robert Bellfield

Scott Jones wins a prestigious City & Guilds Medal for Excellence award.

Craven College, Skipton has been recognised for its high standards of teaching and training which has resulted in former student Scott Jones winning a prestigious City & Guilds Medal for Excellence award. This is in recognition of his outstanding performance in a Level 3 certificate in Principles of Business and Administration which Scott completed in September 2011.

Scott had a real desire to get practical experience in the workplace whilst continuing his education. His potential to do the Level 3 Apprenticeship was recognised by both his tutor Judy Taylor and by his line manager Sue Butler, the Virtual College, Ilkley.

City & Guilds Medal for Excellence have been awarded for over 100 years and aim to acknowledge outstanding talent amongst both learners and tutors.

Scott was presented with his award by Celia Walker from City & Guilds at a presentation at Craven College as part of the National Apprenticeship Week. Scott will also be travelling to London in March to a red carpet celebratory event for all Medals for Excellence winners, where all winners will be entered in to the People’s Choices award, voted for by the public and recognising exceptional talent. Judy Taylor, Craven College Tutor, Business and Administration says:

‘Scott has a mature, can do approach, he is always motivated, and goes the extra mile to produce well researched, detailed work which has resulted in Distinction grades across all his written modules.  Scott has never moaned or complained even when an arm injury, requiring painful, major surgery and four weeks of healing had to be endured.’

Scott Jones, Apprentice says:

“I want to thank Sue and Virtual College for giving me this opportunity.  And Craven College - I couldn’t have done it without my tutors and all the training they have provided me with. My parents too have played a big part supporting me in my apprenticeship."

Chris Jones, CEO and Director General of City & Guilds says:

"At City & Guilds, we want to enable people and organisations to develop their skills for personal and economic growth. We believe all individuals have talent, and we are committed to helping them fulfill their potential. That’s why it is so important to celebrate their outstanding achievements through our annual Medals for Excellence programme. Winning a medal requires a lot of hard work and dedication and our winners should be incredibly proud of their success. I wish them all the best for their futures – wherever it may take them."
