Craven College continue to grow their own work force

Posted on Tuesday 2nd February 2010

Craven College is already one of the largest providers of Apprenticeships in the North Yorkshire area. As well as engaging with local employers and encouraging new Apprenticeship opportunities, Craven College also actively recruit new Apprenticeship staff to their own organisation.

The Apprentices that Craven College have recruited over the last years have ranged from catering apprentices, estates maintenance to hairdressing technicians and receptionists. Craven College also has as many as 10 business support apprentices at any one time and year on year this increases as they realise the value and potential of growing staff from within to support future growth and success.

Apprentices are valued and essential members of the college's workforce and in virtually all cases continue to work as skilled college staff on completion of their Apprenticeship training.

Whilst studying at Aireville Secondary School, Emily Richardson did a pre-16 course in Business Administration Level 2 at Craven College.  Emily wanted to work in an office where she could use her computer skills, develop her business skills and get paid so choose to progress to the business administration apprenticeship which was the ideal choice for her.

Emily now works as a Business Administration Apprentice with the Student Services Team at Craven College and says, “I am very glad I chose this Apprenticeship, I have learned lots of new things, there is a lot of work to keep me busy, and the people I work with have made this experience even better because they are all friendly and always have time to help me. I would definitely recommend Apprenticeships to anyone.”

Catherine Jackson, Admissions Coordinator, Student Services says, “Emily is fantastic, she is an asset to the department – she is a wizard on the computer , we all turn to her for her IT skills.  As her confidence continues to improve and interpersonal skills grow she will be able to develop the business side of her role dealing with students."
