Hospitality & Professional Cookery

Our Hospitality & Professional Cookery courses will equip you with the skills you need to gain employment in this challenging and exciting industry.

We offer practical based courses in a professional and commercial setting, where you will put your skills into practice in our highly acclaimed college Brasserie restaurant. All of our hospitality qualifications will enable you to achieve a real insight into the realistic aspects of the hospitality industry.

You will be taught by staff with a wealth of experience, both from education and industry, including four star hotels and restaurants, modern transport catering, contract catering and themed or ethnic restaurants. Our tutors are continually updating their own skills and knowledge to ensure that you are taught current industrial practices and our links with the industry ensure that you will use the very latest equipment and technology.

Work experience forms a major part of our courses; not only will you be working as part of a team in our busy college Brasserie and learning about all aspects of the hospitality and professional cookery industry but you will also go out on a placement in industry in each year of the course. In previous years students have enjoyed work experience at Coniston Hall Hotel, Weavers Restaurant, Haworth, Rudding Park House and Hotel, Betty’s Café, Angel Inn, Hetton and The Box Tree Restaurant, Ilkley.  80% of our students gain employment directly from their industrial placement.

Follow in the footsteps of some of our successful students who are now working in highly acclaimed Michelin starred restaurants and even for masterchef, Rick Stein.

Paul Rowley says, “Rick Stein is a really nice guy and this is a great place to work. I chose Craven College because I felt it offered me more than other colleges could. My course and experience at Craven College prepared me for working in a professional way - from learning knife skills to restaurant service, the course exceeded my expectations.”

Other successful students include the celebrated Stephanie Moon, Executive Chef, at Rudding Park, whilst Rachel Haldenby was awarded The Michael Quinn MBE Trophy for the Chef Apprentice who has Achieved Outstanding Performance in College and Industry and is set to achieve great things.

Army Bursary Scheme

Based on the college’s proven successful track record in public services training, we have been chosen as a partner in this new scheme. The Army works in partnership with the college to support courses prior to joining the Army. If you are accepted onto the scheme and successfully complete your course you will receive a bursary. This scheme is aimed at students across curriculum areas, not solely public services. For example students in Construction, Animal Care, Media, ICT and Catering are all in demand for careers in the Army. For more information on the Army Bursary contact Student Services on 01756 708 008.
