As a student at the Academy you will work in a busy, commercial salon where members of the public visit for treatments with staff and students.

Year on year The Academy of Hair, Beauty & Holistic Therapies produces excellent results with 100% pass rates across many courses and our most recent Oftsed inspection confirmed The Academy of Hair and Beauty as outstanding.

We have two hair and beauty salons in Skipton where you will put your skills into practice. All of our staff have relevant and current industrial experience and regularly update their skills, giving you access to the best tuition and guidance.

You will be offered the chance to study additional qualifications to add to your CV and will benefit from guest speakers, visits to industry and work experience placements.

You will produce a Craven College Record of Employability, Skills and Training folder (CREST). This will detail all aspects of your work at college and work experience and will be an ideal way of promoting your skills to the employer at an interview. Our excellent industry links at the Academy open up a wide variety of opportunities for students to add to their CV. Our sports massage students were invited to do the pre and post-game massage at the Soapstar Football Aid matches. The players came from TV programmes such as Hollyoaks, Coronation Street, Casualty and Emmerdale. This year students have worked with Oxfam on their TrailTrekker 100 campaign to massage finishing walkers. Media Make-up students have the opportunity to add to their portfolio through work with a professional photographer and on live briefs in industry.

Follow in the footsteps of media make-up student, Melanie Judson, who was hired to work as a make-up artist for a competition for renowned hair care company MATRIX. Her shots have made it through to the final as one of 12 in the UK and Melanie has been hired as the make-up artist for the London final. Her work is now part of a MATRIX poster campaign being used commercially.

Past hair and beauty therapy students have secured jobs in various areas:

Local Salons, City Salons, Mobile Businesses, Cruise Liners, Local Gyms, Make-up Artists, Sports Massage Therapists and Self-Employment.

Many students continue onto further professional development in the industry.
