What will I study?
This one year course will introduce you to a very broad range of skills in Performing Arts, from acting, to investigating the Performing Arts industry and set design, as well as planning and producing a performing arts event. You will undertake many different performance opportunities, such as performing in main shows to the public, as well as during practical classroom assessments to your peers.

You will also have the opportunity to study additional qualifications in Set Design and Construction.
How is the course taught?
This is a practical, work-related course delivered by tutors and working professionals from the performing arts industry. You will learn by completing projects and assignments, based on realistic workplace situations.

- 4 GCSEs A*-E or Level 1 Diploma Merit or Distinction

Where will it take me?
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, Production Arts.
- AS Level Drama & Theatre Studies.
- Career opportunities include: casual or part-time work as a freelance actor, an entertainer, or carrying out marketing and administrative roles within a theatre.
Student success story
Vikki Rowbottom started at Craven College on the BTEC Level 2 in Performing Arts and after completing the course went onto study the National Diploma in Performing Arts (Level 3). She is now applying for Higher Education and hopes to progress to Drama School, or University in 2011.
Equipment & resources used
- You will study and perform in a purpose built theatre and studios.
- Access to our radio station, which students are encouraged to use and gain experience in the skills of acting and performing on radio.
Are there any additional costs?
- A production fee of £40, the cost of which is used to pay for tickets to see professional productions as well as participation in internal and external workshops with visiting practitioners or industry professionals.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is ongoing and based mostly on your practical ability in workshops, rehearsals and performance based work. It is also based on theoretical assignments, which require independent study and research. You will need to meet given deadlines and successfully complete each unit, after which you will receive formal written feedback, together with an interim grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction. Grades can be improved within given timescales.
