Social Facilities and Activities

Coming to Craven College is a complete experience - we want you to be successful in your studies, make new friends and get involved in events and activities.

Social facilities

Our Aireville Campus provides areas for meeting and eating, relaxing and socialising. Our student restaurant, The Connection, offers a range of appetising hot and cold food, snacks, cakes and drinks. The Cafe Bar offers a comfortable environment to go and refuel and relax.

Our High Street Campus has its own cafe, The Venue, serving a range of hot and cold  food and drinks, along with the popular Brasserie Restaurant, open for morning coffee and cakes, lunch or a three course evening meal. We also have refectories at our Auction Mart Campus and Centre for Construction and Heritage Skills. Snacks and hot drinks are available at The Aviation Academy , with an off- site cafe close by where you can meet with airline staff and get more industry information.

Activities

The Activities on offer change from year to year, depending on what you and other students want.

Many students get involved in raising money for charity, including the college’s Hardship Fund which is designed to help anyone who needs financial help with, for instance, buying specialist equipment or fees for trips.  Children in Need and Red Nose Days are always busy days on the college campuses.

In the past we have had Battle of the Bands, where groups formed by students have competed for the title of best band. This year there has been an interest in forming a chess club. Next year... who knows - a lot will depend on you. We’ve also just installed a climbing wall, supported by the Student Council, which when not being used for teaching purposes will be available for supervised student use.

So basically, if you have got an idea of what you might like to do, talk to the other students on your course and get involved in the Student Council.

Sports

On Wednesday afternoons a range of sporting activities are available to students at the Sandylands Sports Centre or at the Craven Swimming Pool. In previous years we have been able to offer netball, tennis, football, rugby ,martial arts and swimming. In addition we have our prestigious  sports academies  - in order to qualify for a place in these teams you will need to attend trials. You can follow the success of our teams in the News section of the website and find out what is happening across college too.

Events

Again these change from year to year . Two major events are the Fashion Show which takes place in May each year and displays the work of our students. These are stunning events which get major press coverage. This is closely followed by the End of Year Art show where the School of Art and Media display their work. Again this event attracts visitors from the region and is your chance to buy a work of art from someone who may be the next Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin.

Our Performance Students also put on regular performances to critical acclaim. The latest production, staged at the Auction Mart Theatre was “We will Rock You” and it certainly did.

Enterprise

We encourage all our learners to take part in enterprise activities. So if you have got a bright idea you can get together with others to develop projects that might transfer into real businesses ventures. The 21st century economy needs people who can see opportunities and use their initiative so this is ideal training for your future.
