On Sunday 6th March 2011, a group of 14 Public Service students and 2 staff left for a 5 day trip to New York. The trip included visits to the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Central Park and Times Square, as well as other 'must-see' sights of the city. The students have an interest in the uniformed public services, so we also included visits to the Police museum, Fire museum and a guided tour of Lower Manhattan, visiting Ground Zero and St Pauls church. One of the highlights of the trip was listening to a talk by an operational Police Sergeant, who explained how New York is policed and she told of her experiences of 9/11.
The trip was an excellent experience for both staff and students. It provided an insight into policing in New York, as well as the huge impact 9/11 has had on the city.
