Apprenticeships : Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

What will I study?

An exciting industry where every day is different. You will maintain vehicles ensuring optimum efficiency, performance and reliability. Learn how to accurately diagnose vehicle faults in mechanical and electrical systems and gain the ability to think on your feet when unforeseen breakdown occurs, keeping vehicles and customers on the road.

How long does the course last?

Course duration is 18 – 24 months.

Course Content

NVQ/Diploma Level 2 Light Vehicle units include:

• Carry out Routine Vehicle Maintenance
• Remove and Replace Transmission Units and Components
• Remove and Replace Engine Units and Components
• Remove and Replace Auxiliary Electrical Units and Components
• Remove and Replace Chassis Units and Components

Additional Study

• Candidates will complete a Technical Certificate/Diploma that demonstrates understanding and supports practical competency and ability
• Functional in at least Maths and English
• Some Apprentices will complete Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

How will I be assessed?

You will attend college one day per week to complete the Technical Certificate and carry out final online exams to demonstrate knowledge and understanding. An assessor will visit the workplace regularly to assess your competence and to help you build a portfolio of evidence.

Entry Requirements

• Employment/Work Placement in industry
• Ideally you will have a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade C or above

Career Progression

• Progression to study at Level 3
