Apprenticeships : Hairdressing
This Apprenticeship will provide you with the skills you would need for a career in hairdressing. Interacting with clients, hair preparation and keeping the salon looking good are all activities which will help you fully experience the day to day needs of a busy salon.
What will I study?
You will help with the running of salons by shampooing, conditioning, drying, cutting and colouring hair. On the Apprenticeship you will learn how to deal with customers, so good communication skills are important.
How long does the course last?
Course duration is 15-24 months depending upon level and age and experience.
Course Content
NVQ/Diploma Level 2 Hairdressing units include:
- Basic Cutting Techniques
- Basic Hair Colouring Techniques
- Basic Style, Dress & Finishing Techniques
- Client Care
- Consultation
- Health and Safety
- Set and Dress hair
- Shampoo & Conditioning Hair & Scalp
- Optional units are available e.g. Perming and Reception duties
NVQ/Diploma Level 3 Hairdressing units include:
- Colour Correction Services
- Colour Hair Creatively
- Consultation
- Creative Cutting Techniques
- Creatively Style and Dress Hair
- Creatively Dress Long Hair
- Develop and Enhance Hairdressing Services
- Health and Safety
- Promotion of Salon Services and Products
- Optional units are available
Additional Study
- Essential Skills for Progression in Maths and English
- Some Apprentices will carry out Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
- Candidates can study other associated courses subject to discussion
How will I be assessed?
You will attend college one day per week and an assessor will visit you at the workplace regularly to assess your competence and to help you to build a portfolio of evidence.
Entry Requirements
- Employment/Work Placement in industry
- Level 2 in Hairdressing
- GCSE grade C in Mathematics & English is desirable

- Develop your own business once NVQ/Diploma Level 3 is completed
