Apprenticeships : Environmental Conservation

A subject which is increasing in importance all the time. Environmental Conservation offers a varied and fulfilling career. Your work may include working in the countryside maintaining areas of outstanding beauty, developing neglected farm or woodland or creating and managing a wide range of recreational areas from inner city parks to remote coasts.

What will I study?

The Environmental Conservation Apprenticeship focuses on practical skills to assist countryside management and community environmental projects, units chosen will be specific to employment and training needs. You will need good communication skills, excellent problem-solving skills and manual dexterity.

How long does the course last?

Course duration is 12-24 months.

Course Content

NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Environmental Conservation units include:

  • Encourage Involvement in Recycling
  • Farm Conservation
  • Hedge Laying
  • Introduction to Dry Stone Walling

Additional Study

  • Functional Skills in Maths and English
  • Emergency First Aid and One Occupational Qualification relevant to your workplace
  • Some Apprentices will complete Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

How will I be assessed?

An assessor will visit you in the workplace regularly to assess your competence and help you to build a portfolio of evidence. Apprentices are required to attend a day release course where on-going assessments take place

Entry Requirements

  • Employment/Work Placement in industry
  • Ideally you will have a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade C or above

Career Progression

  • Progress onto Level 3
