Case Study: Genette Ayrey

Care of the Elderly NVQ 3, The Raikes Residential Home

After leaving school Genette did a series of jobs before deciding she wanted to work in care so she began her Apprenticeship in her twenties and has now completed NVQ Level Three in Care of the Elderly at The Raikes Residential Home, Silsden.

It has been hard work completing my course with two small children and holding down a full time job but despite the struggle I have found it manageable with lots of support both in work and from my College assessor. I found some of the terms on the NVQ sheets needed a little explanation but once I had got into it, it was OK. I did my technical certificate in the work place and came into Craven College for my exams and to use the computers.

My assessor was brilliant and I’m delighted to have finished my NVQ 3. I have recommended Craven College to my friends and colleagues, I can’t fault it. The Raikes is a good place to work, we are a close team, managers, staff and residents all feel comfortable together, its like an extended family and we also get on well with the residents families too.

For the future I have been told that I can go on to university to do a Degree in Nurse Training with my NVQ 3 so when the time is right that is what I intend to do.
