Apprenticeships : Barbering

As male grooming is increasing with popularity, so do the opportunities to work in this area.The Barbering Apprenticeship will teach you how to deal with clients and customer consultations, learn key skills in hair preparation, cutting and styling as well as facial shaving and the preparation of chemicals for hair colouring.

What will I study?

You may be working in a barber’s shop that offers male grooming or working for a top class hairdresser at the cutting edge of style. You will pay close attention to customer service with the highest degree of accuracy. If you are polite, outgoing, pay attention to detail and want to get into an industry where you can really express yourself then this could be for you.

Course Content

NVQ/Diploma Level 2 Barbering units include:

  • Advise and Consult with Clients
  • Change Hair Colour Using Basic Techniques
  • Client Care
  • Cut Facial Hair and Shape using Basic Techniques
  • Cut Hair using Basic Barbering Techniques
  • Dry Hair to Shape to Create a Finished Look for Men
  • Shampoo and Condition Hair and Scalp

Additional Study

  • Essential Skills for Progression in Maths and English
  • Some Apprentices will carry out Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

How long does the course last?

Course duration is between 15-24 months.

Entry Requirements

  • Employment/Work Placement in industry
  • GCSE grade C in three subjects

Career Progression

  • NVQ/Diploma Level 3
  • Develop your own Business
  • Management of a Salon
