Apprenticeships : Agriculture

Agriculture is an important and essential industry. The main types of farm produce include dairy, beef, pork, poultry, lamb, cereal and vegetable. You may work on a traditional smaller farm, a specialist farm with rare breeds or a large commercial farm with a variety of animals and crops.

What will I study?

Your day will start early and normally involve livestock or perhaps just crops if you work on an arable farm. The work is very interesting, varied and rewarding but be prepared for long days and working in all weather conditions.

How long does the course last?

Course duration is 18-24 months depending upon level.

Course Content

  • Diploma in Agriculture Level 2

Optional Pathways

  • Crop Production
  • Livestock Production
  • Mixed Farming

Additional Study

  • Candidates will work towards Functional Skills in at least Maths and English
  • Emergency First Aid
  • One other industry qualification such as Tractor Driving or ATV Handling
  • Some Apprentices will complete Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

How will I be assessed?

You will attend college a maximum of one day per week and an assessor will visit your workplace regularly to assess your competence and help you to build a portfolio of evidence

Entry Requirements

  • Employment/Work Placement in industry
  • Ideally applicants will ideally have of three GCSEs grade C or above

  • Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Higher Education
