Adult Learners

 Whether you are:-

Craven College is here to help. We offer a range of opportunities to meet your needs from:

The College, through its business division, Tyro, has developed many initiatives for adults who are in work or who have been made redundant.  Adult Apprenticeships have been recently added to the very successful Apprenticeships portfolio and can offer you the opportunity of getting re-trained in new areas. To find out more about these opportunities call us on 01756 693 681 or e mail enquiries@craven-college.ac.uk.

The majority of our vocational, further education programmes can be studied on a full or part time basis. Another route into learning is through our Access courses at various levels, designed to help you back into study and progress to degree level. You can also improve your Maths and English at the same time  and gain recognised qualifications to help with employment and further study.

In the Centre for Construction and Heritage Skills, courses in Stone Carving, Stained Glass and Blacksmithing are on offer, taught by leading  Yorkshire based craftspeople. The Centre also runs courses in construction skills so you can learn the basics of plastering, plumbing and general DIY skills so that you can save money in the home or, if you are thinking about making a career change, enable you to get a taster to see if construction is the route for you.

At the Centre for Rural and Equine Studies you can join our award winning students on a range of horticulture courses. Taught by tutors who have achieved recognition in the very competitive horticultural industry, you will be able to study for RHS qualifications or a Foundation Degree in Garden Design, alongside short courses on how to undertake practical tasks such as pruning, soft fruit and vegetable growing, pond and water garden construction. We will also be offering sessions on Garden history.

The Centre also offers a Foundation Degree in Environmental Conservation on a part time basis along with traditional skills in hedge laying and, of course, equine related courses such as the BHS qualifications and degree level horse management courses, all of which are offered on a part time basis.

The recently opened School of Dry Stone Walling, also based at the Auction Mart Campus, provides expert tuition from Master craftspeople  in Dry Stone Walling.  So if you are an absolute beginner or want to take your existing skills to a higher level for employment purposes then we are offering courses throughout the year. You can even mix and match with gardening and construction courses to create your own unique landscaping toolkit and a route into self-employment.

We don’t restrict our offer to practical, outdoor skills.  Our School of Art and Media run short, evening and weekend courses in jewellery making, machine knitting, embroidery, photography and graphic design, all of which can lead to more advanced study on our degree level programme.

At our High Street Campus our catering tutors have developed the very popular range of “Taste of ....” courses.  Used by both people in the industry as well as enthusiastic  amateur cooks these courses give you the basics in creating authentic tastes of Mexican, Thai, Italian and Middle Eastern food – we even have a course for chocoholics!

For those who are focussed on professional development Craven College offers courses in general and specific management along with professional qualifications in Accounting (AAT) Marketing(CIM) Training and Teaching. At The Aviation Academy, our unique airside campus at Leeds Bradford International Airport, we offer aviation programmes from Level 2 to our Foundation Degree in Aviation Management, often linked to job interviews with industry leaders for successful learners.

In addition we also offer traditional evening classes in subjects like modern foreign languages so that you can learn for leisure and pleasure.
