Services to the Community
"The college’s partnership work is outstanding. Extensive and productive collaboration between employers, local agencies, schools, higher education, the community, and public services is highly beneficial in widening learners’ experience and creating employment opportunities."

Partnership work
Craven College is strongly committed to serving its local communities. Our courses have been designed to meet the economic development of the district along with the aspirations and interests of individuals. Our responsiveness to these needs have ensured our successful growth.
Examples include:
- Developing our rural and equine provision at the Auction Mart Campus in response to the devastating effects of Foot and Mouth on Craven District – praised by Prince Charles for the innovative partnership with CCM.
- Establishing the Aviation Academy at Leeds Bradford International Airport to ensure that this rapidly growing area of the local and regional economy had qualified local people to take up the jobs.
- Creating the Centre for Construction and Heritage Skills to equip local people with the specialist skills to repair and extend our unique built environment.
- Partnerships with Bradford, Huddersfield and York St John Universities have enabled us to extend and develop our degree level courses to provide greater opportunities for our rural communities.
Student participation
Our students also participate in local initiatives as part of their learning:
“Learners make an outstanding contribution to the college and local communities through a broad range of productive partnerships.” Ofsted October 2010
Examples include:
- Our Construction and Heritage students helping to construct a Cruck Barn using traditional building methods.
- Horticulture students have built and maintained floral displays on behalf of Craven District Council and made a significant contribution to the “Skipton in Bloom” event.
- Business and Management students have completed a survey and gap analysis on behalf of local businesses to help inform future developments.
- Graphic Design students gain industry experience by undertaking live assignments from companies.
