A Levels
What are A Levels?
- A Levels are studied over a two year period
- An A Level qualification is actually achieved by completion of two qualifications, an AS and an A2
- Assesssment is usually by examination
- Some careers can only be accessed by having an A Level qualification
- A Levels are available in a wide variety of subjects
Who would suit A Level study?
- Those who thrive under pressure
- Are skillful at engaging in independent research
- Perform well in exams
- Enjoy academic subjects
- Currently unsure of area of specialisation
- Wish to go to progress to higher education
What do I need to take A Levels?
- 4 grade Cs or below: Foundation A Level Programme
- 5 grade Cs or above including Maths and English: Full-time A Level Programme (3 or 4 AS/A2 plus an additional AS)
- The GCSEs must be across a range of at least 3 different subject areas

What are Vocational Diplomas?
- Work related qualifications suitable for a wide range of students
- They provide a practical, real-world approach to learning combined with theory
- They can be taken as well as, or in place of, GCSEs, and A levels
- Recognised by schools, colleges, employers and universities
- Assessed through project work, assignments, case studies and presentations
Who would suit Vocational Diploma Study?
- Those who like a practical approach to study
- Prefer not to take exams
- Good with coursework and modular study

Apprenticeships
What are Apprenticeships?
- Learning whilst holding employed status with earnings
- Achieve practical skills and a nationally recognised qualifications in 1-2 years
- Earn while you learn - from August 2009 guaranteed minimum wage £95
- Attend College 1 day a week
- Progress in employment to Advance Apprenticeship and/or to higher education
- 30 career choices in over 10 sectors areas at Craven College
